Week 33!

Good Afternoon!

I hope that you have all enjoyed this long weekend and that you are rested and ready for the rest of the quarter :)

Here is what you can expect for the days ahead:

Spalding: We have 20 words again this week due to the long weekend! Spelling Test on Friday!
Tuesday: color, contains, daily, day, eagle, fancy, fly, forest, freeze, gentle
Wednesday: grow, holes, hotel, iron, living, live, monkey, myself, noise, pencil
Phonograms to practice: ai, ay, ee, f, h, k, m, or, ow, v
 
Writing: This week’s copy work and passages come from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
 
Grammar:This week we will observe Francisco Goya's painting of Don Manuel Osorio Manrique de Zuniga and identify the people, places, things, and ideas (nouns) that we see.
 
Idiom: Land of Nod
 
Poem: “Star Spangled Banner” by Francis Scott Key – We will recite on Friday!

Literature: This week we will explore the other side of the war, by listening to the book George the Drummer Boy. We will then compare it to Sam the Minuteman.
 
History: In History, we will be reviewing the thirteen colonies and learning about what led to the American Revolution. We will discuss the Boston Tea Party and the midnight ride of Paul Revere.

Science: This week we will continue to study the solar system. We will learn about stars and the constellations that we can see from Earth. We will also study the moon and learn about how to identify the different phases of the moon. Throughout the next month, students have the option of observing the moon and drawing it on the Moon Observation Calendar. They will have a chance to discuss and share their observations during the next four weeks.
 
Math:
This week in math we will be learning all about different strategies for how to count numbers within 100. We will start with skip counting by the number 10. We will do this by making and identifying equal groups of ten and then finding our remaining "ones" to create different two-digit numbers.
